Plancius | Antarctica Expedition Ship

M/v “Plancius” accommodates 108 passengers across various cabin types, all featuring private toilets and showers. There are 4 quadruple porthole cabins, 9 twin porthole cabins, 25 twin cabins with windows, and 2 twin deluxe cabins, each approximately 12.5 square meters in size. Additionally, there are 10 twin superior cabins, which are about 21 square meters. All cabins provide lower berths—either one queen-size bed in the superior cabins or two single beds in the twin cabins—except for the 4 quadruple cabins, which accommodate four guests with two sets of upper and lower beds.

Passengers on a typical voyage range in age from their 30s to their 80s, with most falling between 45 and 65. Our expeditions appeal to independent-minded travelers from across the globe, all sharing a strong enthusiasm for exploring remote and untouched regions. A key element of the expedition experience is the camaraderie and sense of community that naturally forms on board. Many departures feature a diverse mix of nationalities, adding to the unique and enriching atmosphere of each journey.

To match the casual spirit of our expeditions, attire on board is informal. We recommend packing comfortable, casual clothing suitable for all planned activities. Since many breathtaking views are best enjoyed from the deck—which can sometimes be slippery—be sure to bring sturdy footwear with non-slip soles. Always keep your parka within reach in case the call of "Whales!" comes over the loudspeaker and you need to head outside quickly. Dressing in layers is ideal, as the interior of the ship is comfortably warm, while conditions on deck can be quite chilly.

The electrical supply aboard the ship is 220v, 60Hz. Electrical outlets are standard European with two thick round pins. You may need a 220v/110v converter.

Gratuities for the ship’s service personnel are customarily given as a collective contribution at the end of the voyage and are then evenly distributed among the crew. Tipping is entirely personal, and the amount is left to your discretion. As a general guideline, we recommend 10 to 15 Euros or US Dollars per person, per day. Whenever possible, providing tips in cash is preferred, as it is more convenient for the crew.

We maintain a non-smoking policy on board our vessels. Smoking is not permitted inside the ship, but designated smoking areas are available. We kindly ask that you respect the preferences of non-smokers at all times.

You should be in good general health and capable of walking for several hours a day. While the expedition is ship-based and not physically strenuous, participation in excursions does require a moderate level of mobility. Although we aim to spend as much time ashore as possible, you are always welcome to stay aboard the ship if you prefer. Most excursions involve boarding Zodiacs, which requires navigating a steep gangway from the ship to the water level. Our staff will assist you in and out of the boats, and this process tends to become easier with experience. On land, conditions can be slippery and uneven. As you will be traveling in remote regions without advanced medical facilities, it is essential that you do not join this expedition if you have a life-threatening condition or require daily medical care.
