Roberto Murcia, the head of provincial ports, expressed satisfaction with the recently concluded 2023/24 cruise season in Tierra del Fuego, foreseeing an even more promising season in 2024/25 for Ushuaia, with an increasing number of vessels interested in Antarctica tours.
He mentioned that they plan ahead for three years and have already received 542 cruise call requests for the upcoming season, with time until next September to finalize arrangements. This season saw 570 cruise calls, with the next season starting in September.
Murcia noted the introduction of a new generation of bi-oceanic vessels shared with neighboring countries, requiring infrastructure expansion due to their larger size. He highlighted ongoing developments such as the almost completed passengers terminal and docking space, along with the finalization of the cargo jetty.
He also mentioned a Japanese agency's confirmation of Ushuaia as the starting point for a South American tour, seeing it as an honor and recognition. The increasing number of vessel transits reinforces Ushuaia's status as the primary gateway for Antarctica cruise tours, contributing to the local economy.
