Classic Antarctica Air-Cruise
Classic Antarctica is the most popular itinerary for Antarctica Expeditions. After reaching Antarctica by air, you will travel along the west coast of Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands. Enjoy the stunning sights of icebergs and fjords laden with ice, while also meeting the wildlife that lives on the White Continent, such as penguins. All expedition ships offer the Classic Antarctica Air-Cruise.

Day by day

Day 1: Chile: Punta Arenas

The staff will welcome you warmly when you arrive in Punta Arenas by 2 pm. In the afternoon, after being transferred to your hotel you will be required to attend a briefing in Explorers House. The session will provide you with important information regarding your Antarctic air cruise and outline essential guidelines. The day will be concluded with a welcoming dinner where you'll have the opportunity to mingle and meet other adventurers while enjoying a regional cuisine.

Day 2: South Shetland Islands: King George Island

As you step off the plane at King George Island, you are greeted by the pure air of Antarctica. You will walk for 2 km (1.25 miles) past Chile's Frei Station as well as Russia's Bellingshausen Station before reaching the beach. You'll then board a Zodiac to take you on an exclusive Antarctic expedition.

Day 3, 4, 5 & 6: South Shetland Islands, Antarctic Sound & Gerlache Strait
Day 7: King George Island
Day 8: Punta Arenas

Cruise Includes

Comprehensive material containing information before and after the journey.
Exclusive entry to Explorers House granted to Punta Arenas guests.
The provision of waterproof boots for shore excursions, charges for landings, a contingency plan, and the IAATO passenger fee.
Daily buffet-style breakfast, along with à la carte lunch and dinner options, inclusive of beverages such as wine, beer, juice, soft drinks, coffee, tea, chocolate, cappuccino, water, and onboard snacks.
Included in the package are guided shore excursions, along with onboard lectures and entertainment.

Cruise does not include

Beverages purchased at the ship’s bar.
Internet connection on board the ship.
Personal travel insurance.
Extra expenses (communication, laundry, souvenirs, etc.).
Gratuities
Visas for Chile and/or Argentina, passport expenses, and any arrival and/or departure tax, if applicable.
Accommodation, meals, excursions, and transfers other than those included in the itinerary and the Contingency Plan corresponding to each voyage. Specifically, dinner in Punta Arenas upon return from Antarctica is not included.

Air-Cruise Inclusions

  • On the first day after arrival, a group transfer is provided from the Punta Arenas airport to your hotel. The return trip from the Punta arenas airport to the Punta Arenas hotel will be on the final day of your air cruise itinerary.
  • The Cabo de Hornos or similar hotel in Punta Arenas will provide accommodation for 2 nights including breakfast on both the first and the return day from Antarctica.
  • Air-cruise itineraries include both a cruise on a ship and a flight, from Punta Arenas in Chile to King George Island or Antarctica.

Under full instruction from your sea kayaking guide, experience true tranquillity as you paddle through clinking ice floes and realise the enormity of the surrounding scenery. Look out for breaching whales, lounging seals and penguins zipping alongside your kayak. Some experience is required.

Learn to capture wildlife and landscape shots in a small group photography program, including critiquing sessions and editing classes. Plus, Explorer Boat excursions with a dedicated photography expert on landings.

Explorer Boats
Achieve the best views and photographs from a forward facing Explorer Boats. They allow you to sit comfortably and securely while crackling through the ice-strewn waters. Look out for wildlife such as penguins, seals and whales as you cruise.
Yoga
Yoga
It doesn’t get more serene than complimentary yoga classes to the tune of glacial scenery. Join the most unique exercise setting in the world after a day of exploration. Classes are regular but are dependent on weather conditions and swell.
