Svalbard in Depth

This extended Svalbard exploration offers ample time to enjoy the beauty of this region. The endless sunlight reveals polar bears in their natural habitat, the echoes from guillemot calls echoing from towering cliffs and the belugas emerging from the water. Our goal is to show off favorite Svalbard locations and perhaps reveal new ones. The extended duration will allow us to take a slower pace and enjoy the wildlife and unspoiled nature of these remote and wild areas. Discover historical hunting and explorer camps, while navigating tundras dotted with wildflowers. Explore the stunning fjords while navigating through the pack ice in search of walruses and bearded seas. We want to make sure you never miss an amazing moment.

Day by day

Day 1: Longyearbyen

You will be welcomed and taken to your group's hotel upon arrival in Longyearbyen. Visit the hotel's hospitality desk for luggage tags. Consult the team of ground operators to get pre-departure details and dining suggestions, as well as information on cash withdrawals or last minute shopping. All meals and the rest of your day are on you.

Accommodation: Funken Lodge (or similar).

Day 2: Svalbard

Your luggage is sanitized, cleared, and delivered directly to your cabin at the port before you board. Your name and cabin number should be attached to the cabin luggage tags. Enjoy breakfast and keep valuables close to you before the guided tour. Learn about Longyearbyen history as you drive towards Camp Barentz, in Advent Valley. In Camp Barentz you can attend a husky presentation and experience the 'lavvo.' The late afternoon departure is preceded by a visit to Svalbard Museum. Assemble in your cabin and attend the safety briefings. Then, experience the excitement of departing. At the Welcome Dinner, get to know your fellow Expeditioners, crew, and the Expedition Team. Zodiacs can be used if the ship cannot dock at Longyearbyen. Wet weather gear should be kept in your hand luggage. If your cabin baggage tag is not clearly completed, the crew may refuse to deliver your luggage.

Day 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14: Spitsbergen

Day 15: Longyearbyen

Activities

Sea Kayaking

Under full instruction from your sea kayaking guide, experience true tranquillity as you paddle through clinking ice floes and realise the enormity of the surrounding scenery. Look out for breaching whales, lounging seals and penguins zipping alongside your kayak. Some experience is required.

Ice Camping

Camp out on the ice and experience the silence which blankets the continent by night. This is your chance to completely connect with this ethereal ice world – wrap up warm and embrace the Antarctic elements.

Snowshoeing

Get a spring in your step when you slip on a pair of snowshoes in Antarctica. Enabling you to easily scale gentle slopes, this unique activity allows you to access hard to reach places and seek out the most impressive views.

Photography

Learn to capture wildlife and landscape shots in a small group photography program, including critiquing sessions and editing classes. Plus, Explorer Boat excursions with a dedicated photography expert on landings.

Explorer Boats

Achieve the best views and photographs from a forward facing Explorer Boats. They allow you to sit comfortably and securely while crackling through the ice-strewn waters. Look out for wildlife such as penguins, seals and whales as you cruise.

Yoga

It doesn’t get more serene than complimentary yoga classes to the tune of glacial scenery. Join the most unique exercise setting in the world after a day of exploration. Classes are regular but are dependent on weather conditions and swell.
