Tromsø, Arctic Circle & Svalbard
Embark on an extraordinary Arctic expedition aboard the elegant Aqua Lares yacht, sailing from Tromsø through the Arctic Circle and deep into the remote wilderness of Svalbard. This immersive voyage combines dramatic fjords, towering glaciers, drifting pack ice, and isolated Arctic islands with exceptional wildlife encounters and fascinating polar history. Designed with flexibility in mind, the expedition adapts daily to changing ice, weather, and wildlife conditions, creating opportunities to witness polar bears, walrus, whales, seabird colonies, and breathtaking frozen landscapes beneath the endless light of the Midnight Sun. Travel Tips Dress in layered clothing with thermal and waterproof outerwear suitable for polar conditions. Bring binoculars and a quality camera with spare batteries, as cold weather drains battery life quickly. Waterproof boots and insulated gloves are essential for shore landings and zodiac excursions. Consider motion sickness medication if sensitive to changing sea conditions. Carry a dry bag to protect electronics and personal items during excursions. Flexibility is important, as wildlife sightings and weather conditions may alter the daily itinerary. Weather Preparedness Arctic weather conditions can change rapidly, even during summer months. Travelers should expect temperatures ranging from near freezing to cool single digits Celsius, with significantly colder wind chill on open decks and near glaciers. Conditions may include sunshine, fog, wind, rain, or occasional snow within the same day. Waterproof outer layers, insulated jackets, thermal base layers, hats, gloves, and neck protection are strongly recommended. Layering clothing is essential for staying comfortable throughout the voyage and during outdoor excursions. Fitness Requirements This expedition is ideal for travelers with moderate mobility and an adventurous spirit. Guests should feel comfortable: Boarding and disembarking zodiac or tender boats Walking on uneven tundra, rocky beaches, or slippery terrain Participating in moderate guided shore walks Standing outdoors for extended wildlife viewing sessions Navigating occasional steep or rugged landing areas While the expedition is not considered highly strenuous, balance, stability, and general mobility are important due to Arctic conditions and remote landings.

Day by day

Day 1: Embarkation - Tromsø
Your Arctic expedition begins in Tromsø, often referred to as the “Paris of the North,” a vibrant city located far above the Arctic Circle. After boarding Aqua Lares, settle comfortably into your cabin and become acquainted with the expedition team and fellow travelers. As the yacht departs the harbor and sails northward through scenic fjords, the surrounding landscapes gradually transition from civilization to pristine Arctic wilderness. Throughout the evening, guests can attend informative briefings led by naturalist guides who introduce the wildlife, geography, and environmental conditions of the polar regions. Panoramic observation decks provide excellent opportunities to admire the glowing Arctic light and dramatic coastlines. Under the Midnight Sun, the first evening aboard offers an unforgettable introduction to the high north and the adventure ahead.
Day 2: Gjesvær & Skarsvåg (Nordkapp)
Today focuses on the remarkable birdlife and rugged coastal scenery of northern Norway. The expedition first visits Gjesværstappan, home to one of Europe’s largest seabird colonies. Towering cliffs and rocky outcrops provide nesting grounds for puffins, gannets, kittiwakes, and countless other Arctic seabirds. Naturalist guides explain the delicate ecological balance that supports these thriving colonies and discuss the migratory behaviors and survival strategies of Arctic wildlife. Later, the voyage continues to Skarsvåg, considered one of the northernmost fishing villages in the world. Colorful houses contrast beautifully against the vast tundra landscapes and open sea. During shore exploration, guests may encounter grazing reindeer and experience the resilient lifestyle of remote Arctic communities that have adapted to these extreme northern conditions for generations.
